Our Mechanical Shop Tours offer a rare, all-access look at the craftsmanship required to maintain and restore our historic fleet of steam locomotives and wooden passenger cars. Led by an expert guide, you’ll walk through our world-class facilities to see massive machinery and discover how we keep century-old technology steaming ahead in the modern era.

 

Get a behind-the-scenes hour long guided tour of the railroad’s mechanical shop, where trains are built and refurbished. Please, no toddlers. There are a limited number of tickets for this tour. We strongly recommend you purchase tickets ahead of time, as the tour often sells out for that day. All tour ticket holders must sign a release which will be provided at the Station upon check-in. The release ensures that the tour participant acknowledges that he/she will be entering an area where railroad industrial activity is performed, including the use of heavy, moving machinery and other hazards associated with a railroad or industrial facility. The release holder agrees to assume all risk of illness or injury and hold the Rail Road harmless for any illness/injury that occurs while the holder is on the tour.

 

• Due to the nature of the facility, this tour is not accessible for those requiring a mobility device.

• Closed-toe shoes are required. Persons wearing opened-toe shoes will not be permitted on the tour, with no option for a refund. High heels are strongly discouraged. 

• Children under the age of 5 are not permitted on the Shop Tour. 

• Ages 5 through 17 must be accompanied by an adult.
